THE ROOTS OF FOOTBALL ON IOS

Before AS Iou:
“K.E.M.A.S IOU”

Before the present-day club was founded, football already had an active presence on Ios. Earlier players and people of the island competed with the team known as “K.E.M.A.S IOU”, keeping the community’s love for the game alive.

The efforts of that generation became an important part of the island’s football tradition.

The first Cyclades Championship

Twelve teams from seven islands took part in the inaugural Cyclades Championship. K.E.M.A.S IOU was among them, representing Ios at a landmark moment for football across the Cyclades.

2009 — AS Iou is founded

AS Iou Athletic Club was founded in 2009 to provide the island’s children and young people with organised sports education and the opportunity to participate in the official competitions of the Cyclades. The club joined the Cyclades Football Association under Hellenic Football Federation registration number 6088, with Ios Municipal Stadium as its home ground.

The first Cyclades Championship

K.E.M.A.S IOU represents Ios in the inaugural competition, alongside 11 other teams from the Cyclades.

022009

AS Iou is founded

AS Iou Athletic Club is established, opening a new, organised chapter for football on the island.

032010

First official participation

The team makes its first recorded appearance in the Cyclades First Division.

042010–2013

Three consecutive group wins

The club’s youth teams finish first in their groups for three consecutive seasons.

052018–2019

Fourth place and play-offs

The senior team finishes fourth and takes part in the play-off matches.

062019–2022

Senior and youth teams

The club fields a senior team alongside U12, U13, U14, U16 and U17 development squads.

072024–2025

Five wins for the U12s

The U12 team records five victories in the Cyclades Football Association championship.

A new era for sports facilities

During the visit of Alternate Sports Minister Giannis Vroutsis, a new indoor sports hall and an upgrade of the football ground are announced.

A strategic partnership begins with the Panionios academy network.

Three consecutive youth group wins

From 2010 to 2013, the AS Iou youth teams finished first in their groups for three consecutive seasons.

The 2012–2013 team completed its group with four wins from four matches and a goal record of 22–4.
